Blandford Select Board Appoints Animal Inspector, Raises Fire Insurance Coverage

BLANDFORD — June 10, 2024 — Blandford Select Board approves higher fire insurance, appoints animal inspector, and defers I-90 exit question. The board unanimously approved a VFiS insurance renewal of $4,681 annually for the volunteer fire department, raising medical coverage from $100,000 to $200,000 — up from an expiring premium of $4,334. Jess Carrington was appointed inspector of animals, filling a vacancy, with state rabies coordinator Ashley Craft to confirm her licensing. Gordon Avery was named to the Emergency Management Committee through June 30, 2025, after the board discovered no water-sector representative was serving. A non-binding referendum question on a new Interstate 90 interchange exit, brought by eighth-grade Gateway Regional civics students, was held over pending an informational meeting and a shorter draft. Highway Superintendent Dave presented drainage engineering quotes of up to $72,700 for a Beachill Road-area project, with a decision tied to whether Chapter 90 funds can cover costs before two road grants are decided in November.
